As a Native American (Apache, Pueblo, and Yaqui) and being raised with a cultural and religious foundation to respect and value all human beings and the environment that surrounds us, iamHUMAN Media originated as a small personal project. In November 2016, after the release of my album “Circling Spirits,” I felt the need to do more with my life to help change the world in which we live. Armed with this deep obligation and my visionary quote by Abdu'l-Baha which says,  “Attach great importance to the Indigenous population of America…there can be no doubt that they will become so illumined as to enlighten the whole world,” I knew I had to do more. I thought about how I could use my experience in film and music to create a project that helped unite humanity. Then one day in May of 2017 at exactly 3AM, I was suddenly awakened from a deep sleep with a thought of creating a project to have people tell their personal stories.  As I tried to go back to sleep, I told myself I would figure it all out later when I got out of bed. Well, I wasn’t able to go back to sleep. It was as if something kept poking me and telling me to “get up.” So I got out of bed and went into my office and started writing the information that was being “downloaded” to me. This continued for two weeks. Interestingly though, I did get Saturdays and Sundays off and was able to sleep in a bit. At first, I didn’t know what all this information meant or exactly how I was supposed to use it. The information as I received it, was very vague except for a few specific ideas. I thought that I could take the initial detailed information provided and begin filming people, allowing them to tell their life stories in 60-90 second videos. This specific information was part of the original 3AM “downloads; ” along with 10 open-ended questions, filming technique, use of voiceovers, video ending statement, and the name of the project. The small personal, #iamHUMAN Video project was born.

As the videos were in development and being released via social media, I went back and reread all of the notes taken during those 3AM work sessions. After rereading the notes, I understood that there was more to be developed. As I sat and created additional artistic programming and ventures from the notes, it became apparent that this type of work would best be suited as a non-profit. Having many years of experience, working in the non-profit world and currently a chairman of a non-profit board. I began developing the bylaws and articles of incorporation. In May of 2019, iamHUMAN Media was officially established as a national non-profit 501(c)(3). The #iamHUMAN Video project continues to be one part of the ongoing programming within iamHUMAN Media.

The original intent of iamHUMAN Media has been and will continue to be, the creation of artistic programs that challenge current social structures, unite humanity all while creating sustainable art and artists. At iamHUMAN Media, our programming services and focus are manifested in this quote by Abdu’l-Baha; “Among the greatest services is the education of children, and promotion of the various sciences, crafts and arts…”
